ZA Show #164: It is time to hang up the headphones

This show is just to announce that it is with regret that I announce that The ZA Show is coming to an end. It is a decision that took me around 2 months to make and although it is a very heart wrenching one, and as bad as I feel that I am leaving our listeners in the lurch and as devostrating that is to me and to you, it is for the best. It is just such a pity that this has to happen only 200 odd days before the 2010 Soccer World Cup, which in turn is going to attact many visitors to our country.
But as they say, the show is only over until the fat lady has sung and it is in that spirit that we won’t just leave you just like that. We are going to do our last show and I really hope that you’ll join us live on uStream or by contributing in the form of any feedback to that show that we’ll be recording. Of course, the show will be available afterwards too.
We are recording ZA Show #165 on Saturday, 21st of November @ 2pm SA time. The show will be streamed live on uStream so please come to The ZA Show website to watch us record our final show.
We also ask that you please send us your feedback in the form of e-mails, audio comments or by calling into the voicemai line at +1-206-426-6013.
Bridgitte will be joining me on the show and we’ll be talking about the last 4 years.
So take a listen below and we hope to hear from you.

Say it is not so! What can us loyal listeners do to change your minds? Can we send money? Donations perhaps? There is no other show like yours - and you are our connection to the Mother Land. Please reconcider!!!

Sad news indeed - but understandable.
For me as an Australian, it was a joy to hear a podcast that contained something other than American accents (good as they are).
And what a wonderfully quirky accent it was - and Bridget’s. She always made you sound much more human Glen and she was a natural.
So good luck to you in whatever you do into the future.
Pity that SA as host will again fall to an Australian side (g) in the World Cup. Just kidding.
Cheers.

Hi Glen, really sad to hear that the show is coming to an end. I’ve been a listener since the first episode and you guys feel like friends to me. Will miss you lots and thank you for all the effort and energy you’ve spent on the show for the past 4 years. God bless!
Wow, I will really miss your show. It has been a favourite of mine for years, and is probably one of the best examples of citizen journalism broadcasting I’ve come across. But most of all it was entertaining. Your audio snapshots of South African life were fun, interesting, and informative. You showed us your unique view of Cape Town, took us on vacation, and invited us to the “shack” on Table Mountain for coffee and a nice chat. You were a real pioneer in this form of entertainment, and you will be missed in so many ways. I wish you, Bridgitte, and the family all the best in your future endevors. So long, and thanks for all the… ah… biltong?
Very depressing news indeed.
I always enjoyed the positive and insightful podcasts of you guys and whenever I can get away with it as a non-english speaker I copy your lovely accent.

Your news was something to be expected, so it didn’t come as a big surprise. There’s a time for everything and now was the time to let this show go.
I thank you very, very, very much for this podcast. I started to listen it for about 3 years ago as we decided we would adopt a baby from SA. The show gave me useful information and perspective on the life in SA. As South Africa is now a part of our family - we’ve been home with our little girl for a year now - we will always have a special relationship with South Africa and South Africans.
I wish you and the whole family all the best. Thank you again for these years.

P.S. Can you give hints of other SA podcasts than a non-Afrikaans speaking foreigner would perhaps enjoy? Although I think your show is hard to beat…
